Fenders are do damn popular simply because
they produce that twangy sound, and the variance of that
sound is well...rather unstable and weak in my opinion.
Once again, Fender freaks, stay off, ok? It's
just my opinion, man :)
Not to forget that countless guitarists in
the 60's and 70's used them, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric
Clapton, and a whole lot more.
But it terms of musical value, that twangy
sound actually adds to the value and sound of the fender.
Many rock guitarists use Fenders, although in more modern
times Fender has lost out to Gibsons,
and then the all-conquering Ibanez
guitars.
Then yes, I have to admit a Fender will be
a better choice for you! I also have to admit that Fenders
have more resale value than most other guitars, so if you
want to sell them off later on, you can get a pretty good
price for it.
Fender Telecasters have a great acoustic
sound. If you know the song Shiver by Coldplay, that
song uses a Telecaster, though I'm not too sure what
model. Most of their other songs use a Telecaster
too.
Telecasters sound great with mild
distortion, but again if you're going for hard rock,
try a Gibson
