Anthony Biehl and Lyon
& Healy
These guitars were made
as a special order for the rich and famous.
The Biehl has ivory
fingerboards with abalone inlays, pearl and ivory
inlays around the soundhole and inlaid pearl butterflies
and harps on th body.
Anthony Biehl was
a professional musician who made a small number
of guitars and mandolins in the last two decades
of the 19th century. the fine quality of his work
is shown here.
The Lyon & Healy
guitar also has ivoy and pearl decorations. In
contrast to Biehl, Lyon & Healy was one of
the dominant instrument manufacturers of the late
19th and early 20th centuries.
