Rickenbacker
360-12®
This 12 string was introduced
in 1964, and one of the first was given to George
Harrison.
Rickenbacker's guitars featured
a thin and rounded hollow body with a single round
triangular sound hole. The 12 string guitar from
Rickenbacker also featured these, with some additional
innovations of it's own.
Segovia continued
to perform well into his eighties, and his name
will forever be linked to Spanish guitars.
Most twelve string guitars face
a major problem; tuning it
is really a hassle, and it is quite difficult to
find enough space on the head for 12 tuning machines
without making it look awkward.
Rickenbacker, however, came up with
a simple yet effective solution that amazed many
guitar craftsmen. The six extra machine heads were
fixed between and at the right angles to the others.
This new arrangement really made tuning the 12 string
a whole lot easier.
Among those who are closely associated
with this guitar is George
Harrison (the Beatles), Roger
McGuinn (the Byrds), and Pete
Townsend (the Who)
