The "Pikasso"®
When jazz guitarist
Pat Metheny jokingly asked master luthier Linda
Manzer how many strings she could put on a guitar,
she showed him that she could do almost anything...
This three-necked,
double sound hole, 42-string electric acoustic
guitar was truly a masterpiece; it's unique shape
and amazing weight made it more of a showcase
guitar.
The "Pikasso"
has 4 sets of strings, which are amplified by
five piezoelectric pickups, along with an internal
amplifier.
The six-string neck
plays like any conventional guitar, whereas the
twelve string short scale section beside it is
usually tuned chromatically.
Beneath those strings
are twelve more strings that are similar to a
harp, as many of the strings are tuned to duplicate
the sound made by an autoharp. Yet another twelve
strings cover the extremely low and high notes.
