Interdonatti
000®
Philip
Interdonatti (who built
this guitar), was virtually unknown, even though
he made fine instruments like this one. His instruments
reflected his remarkable ability to incorporate
technical innovations.
The fingerboard on Interdonatti
has been carefully scalloped, and each peak filled
with a thin metal bar. These recessed metal bars
enabled a completely fretless sound, especially
useful when you are doing some sliding...
This guitar doesn't even have
a conventional saddle! The bridge can be slid
in and out of place, and is secured by the pressure
of the strings. The Interdonati 000 show here
is one of Philip's more sophisticated guitars,
and one of two such guitars extant
The Interdonatti makes an intense
and penetrating sound that would have been loved
by a 1930 jazz soloist. Notice the magnificent
inlay work on the headstock, around the soundhole, and
carvings all over the guitar. A true beauty, isn't
it?
